OMNI Technologies has partnered with Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) to support their Cyber Security Program. As a precursor to the program, all students are required to attend the Essential Skills Course which prepares them for the rigor of the accelerated certification courses. OMNI team members volunteered to speak with students about what organizations are looking for in potential employees. Topics ranging from applying and interviewing to establishing personal goals and objectives were all covered during the session. Mock interviews were conducted as the culminating event before students received their certificates of completion. We are excited about our partnership with BCCC and look forward to great things to come.
OMNI Technologies’ Rick Smith was recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year at FIRST Chesapeake District’s Championship Event, a robotics competition. FIRST Chesapeake uses robotics to bring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)-based programs and competitions to young people in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
For many years, Rick has dedicated himself to volunteering with FIRST Robotics Competition. His tireless efforts are primarily focused on mentoring young people and training volunteers. His service has solidified the foundation and future success of the FIRST Chesapeake District. As the district’s Senior Lead Robot Inspector, Rick initiated recruitment and retention efforts to secure multiple technically skilled volunteers whose involvement is paramount in getting robots safely and successfully on the field. Not only is Rick an asset to OMNI Technologies, he is also a pillar in the STEM community as a mentor and trainer.
OMNI Technologies, LLC is committed to the advancement of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum in our community. Last month OMNI staff met with Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) administrators and staff to donate funding to their STEM program and solidify OMNI’s partnership with HCPS. These funds will be used to procure laptops and a charging cart for the Havre de Grace High School which will support their STEM curriculum this year.
In addition to partnering with HCPS, OMNI staff volunteered at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) qualifier hosted at U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC). This year’s theme was Animial Allies. Children, ages 9-14, were required to research real-world problems related to human interactions with animals. They then created innovative solutions to the problems identified. Teams built and programmed Lego robots to execute a variety of missions ranging from shipping a shark to releasing a panda. The finale was the robotics competition which tested the teams’ ability to have their robots successfully complete each mission for points. Volunteers from OMNI served as judge, general runner, referee and referee assistant. We had a great time and are excited about participating again in the future.
The 1st Annual Camp R.O.C., sponsored by OMNI Technologies, was a fun and inspiring Christian Performing Arts Summer Camp in Baltimore, Maryland. Campers ages 7 – 17 received professional training in dance, music, drama and creative writing while also enjoying field trips to the swimming pool, skating rink and Hershey Park. Several local Baltimore performing artists and volunteers offered their time and talents to teaching the campers the purpose of their performing arts passion to include various professional techniques.
Camp R.O.C. provides a non-threatening environment for Baltimore City youth to experience a variety of life skills that help them grow into healthy adolescents and adults. Campers develop technical skills in dance, music, drama and creative writing receiving positive feedback about themselves. The camp supports youth developmental needs for physical activity, competence and achievement, creative self-expression, positive social interactions and meaningful participation. These experiences produce positive behaviors than introduce and reinforce their self-esteem, confidence and sense of community.
